The Great Twelve Sailing Challenge was founded in 2004 by the Ironmongers Company as a regatta for the Great Twelve Livery Companies of the City of London, who charter the matched fleet of 12 Mermaids owned by the Sea View YC. The Mermaid is a 26-foot half-open keelboat, usually raced with a crew of three.
While the event raises money for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal, it is also an opportunity for those that participate to bond with others in their own livery company while also to get to know the other Livery Companies. The sailing is competitive but fun and will attract both experienced yachtsmen and women alongside those who have never sailed.
